37 weeks- 3 more to go
Ok so here is the latest….Went to the doctors as you all know last Thursday for my ultrasound and I had fully intended on updating you all later that same day but unfortunately I couldn’t because they wouldn’t go over the
results with me then and there I had to wait until my next appt which was yesterday…So….yesterday I went in to see the doctor and she says the baby weighed aprox 6lbs as of the ultrasound last week. She says the baby typically grows ½ a pound per week so that would be an 8lb baby at term (40 weeks). She said I am still 1 cm dilated but now 50% effaced and that they baby is nice and low so we are making progress.
The only discouraging thing was the tech who did my ultrasound noted some measurements that created concern for the doctor. Apparently size is estimated by 3 measurements…the circumference of the head, the circumference of the stomach and the length of the femur bone. Apparently the head and abdomen measured 36 weeks which is how far along I am but the legs only measured 32 weeks (4 weeks behind). The doctor said this could mean that the babies growth was being hindered my something inside and that she wanted to refer me out to a specialist for further ultrasound measurements. She said if there was still a discrepancy that she would want to deliver me early because she thought the baby would do better on the “outside”. This was discouraging news for obvious reasons and also because I do not want to be induced at all even for as uncomfortable as I am I know God has a perfect day in mind for her to be delivered and I strongly believe she is not just in there ready and waiting but that she is still “cooking”.
We have been praying round the clock for this appt with the specialist and that everything would be ok. My appt was at 11:45am I had an ultrasound by a technician in his office as well as the doctor himself and both said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the baby. She still measures about 1 week short in the legs but he said that’s nothing and could just be genetic. We all know momma has some short chubby legs and so now we know the baby does too. At this ultrasound they measured her weight at 7lbs which would be a whole pound weight gain in the last week not just a ½ pound but they said the margin for error is 10% so we can safely assume she is around 6.5-7lbs and is growing healthy and is totally fine. We also saw in both ultrasounds that she has quite a bit of hair especially this ultrasound I could see it waiving in the fluid. This leads me to believe that she is going to have daddy’s dark hair and not my red hair. I have to assume that if she was a red head she would be more on the bald side at birth. I could be wrong but I guess we will just have to wait and see. I’m glad she has hair though it looks like enough to be able to put a little bow in.
Next appt is Halloween 10/31 @ 11:15am
